The Haunted Lime Kilns
In one of the old lime kilns that dot the landscape above the village of Acrefair, you may find the ghost
of a tramp who died in tragic circumstances. Many years ago, when the lime kilns were at the centre of a busy industry,
a tramp began to frequent the area and used the lime kilns to sleep in. However, early one morning whilst the tramp
was sleeping, the workers who were unaware that he was asleep inside, lit the fires and closed the heavy doors on the kiln.
The tramp died a horrible death... but since the grisly discovery was made, the kiln was known to be haunted by a shadowy
shape, muffled screams were heard and fingermarks were left in the bricks that were made in there!
Pontcysyllte Aqueduct
The ghost of a figure in white haunts the aquaduct. Is the figure one of the many men who apparently
died whilst trying to built this masterpiece of Thomas Telford? Or is it the product of local ghost lore? A visit
at night is said to pay dividends...
