Since the early 19th century, the figure of a "tall lady with long black hair" has been witnessed walking slowly through the ruins of the castle.  It has even been reported that she has been heard weeping.  She is said to be known locally as the Black Lady of Boverton, which is attributable to the mourning clothes she is said to wear.
